Convert Image

Live

The other converters here are locked to a single output, which is faster when you already know what you need. This is the one where you choose: seven formats in, including the GIF, BMP and TIFF files the direct pages do not take, and PNG, JPG or WebP out.

What it does

  • Seven formats in, three out
  • The only page here that can output WebP
  • Straightens sideways phone photos

Frequently asked questions

Which image formats can I convert between?

Seven go in: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, GIF, BMP and TIFF. Three come out: PNG, JPG and WebP. That covers the awkward files people are usually handed, such as a TIFF from a scanner or a BMP out of an old Windows program, neither of which the single-purpose pages accept.

How do I convert an image to WebP?

Here, on this page. The direct pages are deliberately locked to PNG or JPG because those are what people search for, so this is the only place on the site that writes a WebP. Pick WebP under Convert to, and the file comes back with the same pixel dimensions it went in with.

Will converting a JPG to WebP make the file much smaller?

Less than you would expect. WebP is genuinely better than JPG at the same quality, but that advantage comes from encoding an original, not from re-encoding something JPG has already compressed. On a photograph we measured, a 178 KB JPG came back as a 167 KB WebP, about 6% smaller. If you want a real size drop from a file you already have, Compress Image is the honest answer.

What happens if I upload an animated GIF?

You get a single still frame. PNG, JPG and WebP as written here all hold one image, so the animation is not preserved and there is no way to get it back from the converted file. Keep your original GIF if the movement matters.

Should I use this page or one of the direct converters?

If you already know the pair, use the direct page: HEIC to JPG, PNG to JPG, JPG to PNG, WebP to PNG or WebP to JPG. They run the same engine, but each one explains the trade you are making for that specific conversion, such as transparency being filled with white or the file getting several times bigger. Use this page when you have not decided, when you want WebP, or when the input is a GIF, BMP or TIFF.

What happens to the image I upload?

It is sent over HTTPS, used only for this conversion, and deleted from our server automatically about an hour later. Never sold, never used to train anything. One image at a time up to 50 MB, with no account, no watermark and nothing to pay.
