Frequently asked questions
Why are my iPhone photos HEIC in the first place?
Apple switched the default in 2017 because HEIC stores a similar-looking photo in roughly half the space of a JPG. The trade is compatibility: a lot of websites, Windows apps, and older devices still cannot read it.
Will the photo lose quality?
A little, because JPG is a lossy format and it has to re-encode the picture. We convert at a high quality setting, so the difference is not visible at normal viewing size. The JPG will usually be larger on disk than the HEIC was.
Will my photo come back sideways?
No. Phone photos carry an orientation flag rather than being stored rotated, which is why they sometimes flip when other converters strip it. The rotation is applied to the pixels here, so the JPG opens the right way up everywhere.
Can I convert several at once?
Not on this page: it takes one photo at a time. If you want several HEICs combined into a single document instead, Images to PDF accepts up to 20 in one job.
What happens to the photo I upload?
It is sent over HTTPS, used only for this conversion, and deleted from our server automatically about an hour later. Never sold, never used to train anything.
Does this work on a phone?
