Frequently asked questions

Can I leave the cover page unnumbered?

Yes. Set numbering to start on page 2 and leave the first number as 1, so the cover stays clean and the page after it reads 1.

What if my PDF already has page numbers printed on it?

You will end up with two. These numbers are stamped on top of the pages rather than replacing anything, so check a page first if you are not sure.

Can the numbers say 'Page 3 of 20'?

Yes. Five formats are available: 1, Page 1, 1 of 12, Page 1 of 12, and - 1 -. The total always counts every page in the document.

Are the numbers real text?

Yes. They are drawn as text, so they stay sharp at any zoom, print cleanly, and can be found with a search.
